Insects, Food & Design
By 2050 the world will host 9 billion people. To accommodate this number, current food production will need to almost double and it seems unviable to maintain the production rates in the future. A possible solution to reduce livestock production while ensuring a diet rich in protein could be achieved by eating insects. However, it seems people feel adverse about the idea of eating this food source due to negative emotional concerns.
For four days, students from Elisava (Barcelona) took part in a workshop that aimed to explore how to introduce insects in western diets, how to break the negative emotional barrier and what could be done from a design perspective.
